Anuradha Thakur brings an economic-policy lens to India’s AI governance architecture. As Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, she sits within the government’s core economic policymaking structure at a time when AI is being assessed not only as a technology issue, but as a productivity, labor-market, investment and macroeconomic question.
Her relevance to India’s AI story is institutional rather than entrepreneurial. Through her role in the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG), she is part of the inter-ministerial mechanism intended to coordinate India’s AI governance strategy across policy, technology, security and economic priorities.
Her role places economic policy inside India’s AI governance debate.
