Accion is one of the world’s oldest social‑impact investors. Founded in 1961 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the non‑profit organization operates a global venture arm focused on financial inclusion and digital innovation. In India it typically invests at the Series A stage in fintech and enterprise software companies that expand access to financial services.
The venture arm recently co‑led a $3.3 million seed round in logistics‑focused fintech OneLot alongside Crestone Venture Capital, with participation from 468 Capital. Accion’s portfolio features six unicorns, three public listings and 21 acquisitions, including household names such as IndiaMART and Axis Bank. Its investments also span Africa and Latin America, reflecting a mandate to advance financial inclusion worldwide.
Accion manages about $475 million earmarked for venture investments and employs 44 people. It frequently collaborates with development finance institutions like Dutch development bank FMO, emphasizing a mission‑oriented approach. The fund has participated in more than 70 funding rounds and brings decades of expertise in financial inclusion to its portfolio companies.
