Alteria Capital, launched in 2017 by former executives of Silicon Valley Bank’s India unit, is India’s largest venture‑debt provider. Headquartered in Mumbai, the firm specializes in lending to high‑growth startups across consumer services, fintech and healthcare, typically writing cheques of $5-10 million. By offering debt rather than equity, it enables founders to access growth capital without diluting ownership.
The fund has backed a long list of high‑profile companies, providing debt financing to brands such as Bombay Shaving Co. and logistics platform Dunzo. Its flexible structures have made it a preferred partner for unicorns and soon‑icorns seeking working‑capital solutions. Alteria’s portfolio includes dozens of ventures that have since achieved significant scale.
Operating with a lean team, Alteria manages about $550 million and has participated in nearly 250 funding rounds. It frequently collaborates with equity funds and family offices, underscoring its role as a complementary source of capital rather than a competitor to traditional venture firms.
